Sam Painter is an award winning Director of Photography based in Los Angeles whose influential work includes the coverage of historical events, groundbreaking exposes, and numerous celebrated documentaries. In Washington DC he went on to became a member of the White House Press Corp during Regan’s 2nd term. During this time he also freelanced for National Geographic, PBS, Entertainment Tonight, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and numerous Magazine Shows of the day.  He's worked throughout Europe interviewing a who’s who of the Music and Film world, including The Rolling Stones, remaining members of The Beatles, and The Who, as well as most of the 80’s New Wave/Punk Music scene. He also shot behind the scenes of just about every major movie and music video being shot in Europe at the time, including Superman, James Bond, Full Metal Jacket, and Whitney Houston’s very first music video amongst many others. In New York he met Academy Award winning Documentary Film Maker Alex Gibney. They have collaborated on some of the most watched documentaries in history including,“Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief,” which garnered an Emmy for Best Documentary and an Emmy nomination for Best Cinematography.  He's worked on numerous bigger budget films including, “Transcendence”, “Inception”, “Moneyball”, “Laurel Canyon”, and “Wild Palms”. His work on the groundbreaking interview with Diane Sawyer and Charles Manson would lead to more network investigative projects, including Frontline, 60 Minutes, 48 Hours and Turning Point.
