DaBaby is using his art to address his so-called “cancelation.” During a recent stop at the Power 106 studio, the Grammy-nominated rapper delivered an impassioned, braggadocious freestyle for the L.A. Leakers. DaBaby touched on his jet set lifestyle, his family, and the backlash he received following his controversial comments at Rolling Loud Miami. DaBaby came under fire last summer over sexist and homophobic remarks made on the the Rolling Loud stage. DaBaby, who lost performance gigs and endorsement deals over the incident, went on to apologize for his “hurtful and triggering comments,” as well as his “misinformed” remarks about HIV. “Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate and learn from your mistakes,” he wrote on Instagram. “As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me — knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance — has been challenging.” The L.A. Leakers freestyle went down just hours before DaBaby was filmed fighting at a bowling alley. The LAPD confirmed the altercation was between DaBaby—real name Jonathan Kirk—and Brandon Bills, the brother of DaBaby’s ex-girlfriend DaniLeigh.
