104: Avalanche-Bealey Traverse and Pursuing Adventures with Neurological Disorders with Nick Allen
Aotearoa Adventures: The New Zealand Travel Podcast - A podcast by Abigail Hannah - Fridays

Nick Allen has had a love for adventure since he did the Pinnacles Hut at age 7. Nick has fibromyalgia and FND, neurological disorders that make it incredibly challenging to pursue his outdoor passions. He shares about a recent winter adventure doing the Avalance-Bealey Traverse in Arthur's Pass and describes it as "walking a knife's edge." Nick was grateful that this adventure didn't lead to a relapse and hopes to continue to get outdoors. His advice to make the outdoors more inclusive is to look out for everyone in a group, communicate well and don't fixate on the goal. Nick runs a charity called Mastering Mountains that helps others with MS and FND get rehab and smash their outdoor goals. KEA Outdoors is a kiwi brand on a mission to build innovative, versatile and reliable outdoor gear for the every-day adventurer.
