268. Let’s Chat About Murals with Whitney Hayden

Artist Academy - A podcast by Andrea Ehrhardt - Mondays

This week’s episode features Texas muralist Whitney Hayden. If you listened to Crystal Frye’s episode, just 2 recordings back, you’ll hear a mention of the name “Whitney” a few times. We were referencing Whitney Hayden, who you’ll be listening to today, and you’ll also hear Crystal chime in a bit too. That’s because even though they live states apart, these two organized an in-person paint session together to learn from each other. Two muralists, who are doing very well on their own, met up to collaborate and grow. I just wanted to highlight that feature before we got started because I love the idea of it so much! I actually did not know that those two were meeting up when I asked them separately to interview. Sometimes I get these mental taps on the shoulder that sound something like, “Hey, maybe you should interview Whitney again since it’s been over 4 years since her first interview. Her business has changed so much since then and her newfound storefront would be a fun topic.” I asked, and she agreed. This interview is really down to earth and just two longtime art friends chatting about our businesses. Whitney tells it like it is and I really enjoy that about her. This is a fly-on-the-wall kind of conversation I would’ve liked to listen to about the topic of murals, prints, and what it’s like opening up a storefront. She talks openly about where her profits are coming from, and I think the numbers might surprise you.
