This week’s episode features Patrycja Hannagan (PJ) of Mural Nomad. She’s a Polish muralist traveling around Australia with the goal of creating 100 murals in 100 weeks. She’s living the travel/adventure life that some of us have at one point considered, but maybe never thought was possible. PJ gives us a front-seat view on what it’s like being a working muralist living out of a van. To some, it might look like she’s living this carefree, hippie adventure, but in reality, she’s making a great living while building up her portfolio and brand with murals from all over Australia. My biggest takeaway from this interview was how much importance PJ places on outreach to build her portfolio. She doesn’t wait for people to find her, she goes to them. Literally, she drives in her van to different locations all over Australia. But more importantly, she does things like posting in Facebook groups, reaching out to local artists in every area, and networking with local businesses (like welcome centers) in order to hopefully get connected with another job in each area. She’s open about pricing strategies, including how she went from charging $200 per mural to $65,000 for her latest project. PJ is currently on mural #59 of her 100 goal, so go give her a follow @mural_nomad to cheer her on in crushing her goal within the next year!www.ArtistAcademy.co
