Attacking Third: A CBS Sports Women's Soccer Podcast - A podcast by CBS Sports, USWNT, NWSL, Soccer, WSL, Women's Soccer
Sandra Herrera and Lisa Roman roll out the third episode of their Title IX Tuesday Series. This June celebrates the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX - a federal civil rights law passed in 1972 prohibiting sex-based discrimination in any school or other educational program that receives funding from the federal government. Sandra and Lisa welcome Tennis star Katrina Adams to the show to discuss Title IX, how she directly benefited from Title IX as a collegiate student-athlete, and how Billie Jean King has started the progress for women in tennis. Katrina discusses how growing up in Chicago she wasn’t sure how to be a tennis pro, but ultimately joined the players association board of directors to keep the sport moving forward. She talks about owning your courage and standing up for what you believe in as a woman, athlete, or anything. Then, Lisa welcomes Olympian Dara Torres to the show to discuss Title IX and how it impacted her life as a duel-sports collegiate athlete. Dara discusses the benefits she had competing alongside male swimmers and about how when she reached the peak of her career she faced backlash. Dara also opens up about the importance of remembering Title IX as we move forward in the world and how it impacts her daughter playing sports now. This Title IX series is done in collaboration with CBS Sports’ “We Need to Talk.” 'Attacking Third' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox and wherever else you listen to podcasts.
