Guest: Dr. Michael Jewett. It's a Marathon, Not a Sprint. Dr. Michael Jewett was a Christian Minister for over 30 years and earned a PhD in theology. He held many positions in his church. He is also a retired psychologist. He worked for 30 years with the needy, homeless and people with addictions to alcohol and other substances. He was the state of Michigan director of the alcohol and substance abuse program. He would train churches around Michigan to work with alcohol and substance abuse clients. He was also the state of Michigan chaplain overseeing the churches in the state of Michigan for the prison ministry in jail ministry and juvenile ministry. In this episode we discuss the following: How his interest in learning more about Islam began with a rummage sale. The beauty of the Islamic prayer and the positive impact it had on his journey towards Islam. The many years of study that he undertook before becoming Muslim. His difficulty with his fellow Christians and their lack of commitment to their own faith. Our own fears about what other people may be thinking about you. Perceived and real prejudices of others who are not Muslim. The fear of Allah (SWT), and the forgiveness of Allah, and your opinion and perception of Allah. Giving Allah human characteristics and how Allah does not have characteristics of his creation. Learning about Islam in a stepwise fashion. His interactions with the Quran and it's lack of a traditional literacy pattern. The narrative in your head, including your own prejudices and beliefs. Learning about Islam from someone who knows Islam. Differences in the beliefs about other religion's scriptures.
