Unfiltered: Savin London & Colby John Drama
Behind Bridal - A podcast by Behind Bridal

Grace's unfiltered thoughts on #CopyCats & #CancelCulture. How do we move forward as an industry? Posted by Savin London 2 Days Ago: "To all my beautiful brides and to the entire bridal (and fashion) community,I never thought I would write such a message and in such a public way, but I feel like recent events have left me no choice. In 2020 our collection was bought the designer of Colby John Bridal, for one of his stores, flutterbridalco, in Minneapolis. Around the same time a direct copy of our beautiful signature dress, Alika, has started appearing across closed groups of bridal retailers and on social media. Furthermore, that dress has been presented privately as part of a private label, distributed by him for stores to purchase. Essentially a carbon-copy of our gown: a knock-off.The development of this dress started in 2018 within our atelier in London, UK. I have been changing and evolving that style, until Alika was officially launched in 2019, creating one of our most iconic silhouettes. Over recent years, we have been developing this style further, however it remains at the core of our brand. This act of copying it is nothing less than stealing our intellectual property. As a designer, we do not benefit from any copyright protection. I do understand that we can all collectively be inspired by a number of things. BUT there are still lines you do not cross - THIS IS A DIRECT COPY OF THE SIGNATURE SAVIN DRESS by one of our former retailers. We put our hearts and souls into our gowns. We ethically produce all of the pieces within our Atelier in London, UK. Over the last 7 years, we have built a team that dedicates their lives, creating beautifully made collections for our special brides. It is absolutely devastating to see such a DIRECT copy of your work, especially by a fellow “designer”. There is complete lack of respect. This is a complete lack of appreciation for the craft.I consider this a personal offence to all people who work for the brand, an offence to dedicated supply chain that is committed to providing the best possible quality for our brides, an offence to the network of retailers across the world who support our brand and its values, and a direct assault on the brand I have spend the last 7 years building from scratch.PLEASE SHARE.
