There’s no greater equalizer than education. In the age of technology, a college degree is a must-have to succeed professionally. That’s why Cisco has partnered with a San Jose high school to help underserved communities with the educational tools to succeed in the classroom and the boardroom. People with a college degree will make on average $1 million more in their careers than those without a degree. That’s why at Cristo Rey High School, the focus is on preparing students to graduate and go to college. The school’s 455 student body is a majority Latino. Last year, 99 percent of seniors graduated, 98 percent of those Cristo Rey graduates enrolled in college. Students learn not just math and science, they learn about information technology. They drive projects, giving presentations and experience what it will be like to work at Cisco or any other company. Being born in an underserved community, “It doesn’t have to be another sad story.”
