For episode 10 I’m delighted to welcome to breakfast Freyja Hanstein. Freyja has created the app Wholesome World, which is a collection of recipes, nutritional and medical information, along with wellbeing insight.  Wholesome World aims to inform and motivate people to improve and maintain their health, highlighting research-based factors to reduce the incidence of, and support those who are affected by, cancer. Behind the app is an incredibly moving, powerful and above all positive story of how Freyja navigated the loss of her husband Lars in 2014 due to abdominal Synovial Sarcoma cancer, the grief that surrounded this immense loss, which was followed by Freyja being diagnosed with a grade III/IV brain tumour the following year.  Through her recovery and the rebuilding of her life, Freyja has directed her energy into creating a platform to share all that she has learnt along the way, and support the wellbeing of others. This is a story of sustainability that is deeply personal and connects the theme of wellbeing with wider issues concerning people and planetary health, through the resources that are shared within Wholesome World.  As we’re on the cusp of a New Year – a moment when we often reflect on what’s gone before and what lies ahead, Freyja’s story is a timely reminder to be grateful for the gifts that life offers us – whatever our situation – and that small shifts can inspire a positive cycle towards better, more sustainable health and wellbeing.  For breakfast with Freyja I cooked a Festive Leftovers Shakshuka – it’s simple to make, easily adaptable, and is a beautiful, one-pot, centre-piece dish (which can be eaten at any time of day); I find it a welcome counterpoint to the laden tables and heavy meals we often have during the festive season, so do check out the recipe and treat yourself to an easy, delicious and zero-waste meal.  The Episode 10 web page contains more information about the themes we discuss, details of the Cornwall based producers and growers whose fantastic food I cooked with, behind-the-scenes photos and much more – it’s https://www.tiatamblyn.com/10-wholesome-world    Huge thanks to organic skincare company Phoenix and Providence for their support of the podcast.  To browse their range of beautiful, hand-crafted products - which include face and body oils, face masks, soaps, body balms, bath salts and more – as well as receiving their free Seasonal Self-Care Rituals guide, head to www.phoenixandprovidence.co.uk and enjoy a 10% discount using the code BREAKFAST10.   Thank you for listening, I’d love to know your thoughts on today’s episode.  Do join the conversation, you can email me [email protected] or message via Instagram @breakfast_and_beyond  Please do subscribe to the podcast, and I’d be so grateful if you could rate and review this episode on Apple Podcasts, then share it with friends and family who you know would enjoy listening - thank you so much!
