Rumpelstiltskin

A miller lives in a modest cottage with his daughter. The miller’s daughter is both clever and beautiful and her father is very proud of her. The miller likes to talk and boast about his daughter. One day when the king is hunting in the woods, the miller can’t resist telling him all about his daughter. He gets carried away and tells the king that his daughter is so clever, she can spin straw into gold! The king is impressed and orders the miller to take the girl to the royal palace so that he can see her talent for himself. The miller’s daughter cries when she sees the straw piled up around her. She knows there is no way that she can turn it into gold! But soon a strange man appears and tells her that he will do it for her - for a price. The same thing happens for the next few evenings, until finally, the girl has nothing left to give the little man. He makes her promise that she will give him her first-born child when it arrives. The miller’s daughter marries the king and becomes queen. When their baby boy arrives, the strange little man returns to take the baby away. The queen is distraught, so the little man gives her three days to discover his name. If she can do this, then she can keep her baby. Two days go by and the queen is nowhere near close to guessing the little man’s name. That evening though, one of her messengers sees a little man dancing around a fire and chanting his name. He rushes back to tell the queen. The next morning the queen tells the little man the name her messenger overheard the night before. He turns red with rage and stamps on the floor in anger.
