Special Agent in Charge Matthrew J. DeSarno joined the FBI in 2002 and was assigned to the San Diego Field Office. In 2009, Mr. DeSarno was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent assigned to lead the Chicago Field Office's Task Force on Gangs, and in 2013 he was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge. In 2015, Mr. DeSarno became the Chief of the Strategic Operations Section in the Counterterrorism Division, where he led the Bureau's efforts in global counterterrorism targeting, and overseas counterterrorism human intelligence operations. In 2017, he was named a Deputy Assistant Director for the Counterterrorism Division, providing leadership oversight for all FBI's international terrorism investigations and operations. In 2018, Director Wray selected Mr. DeSarno to serve as the Special Agent in Charge of the Criminal/ Cyber Division of the Washington Field Office, and in 2019, he was selected to lead the Dallas Field Office.
