Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales Podcast, and back to this Series on Mythic Places. In this series, we’re taking a look at some of the most iconic locations in Ireland, and the stories and myths attached to them. In this episode, we journey across the road and up the hill to Navan Fort, also known as Emain Macha. In the province of Armagh, Árd Mhacha, where Macha, Queen of the Nemedians, is buried, this fort was named either for the Twins of Macha (stillborn because of Conchubar Mac Nessa’s cruelty and pride) or the Brooch of Macha, with which she traced the outline of the walls. Either way, it is Macha’s place.
