Episode 71 - The Death of Cú Roi Mac Daire

Candlelit Tales Irish Mythology Podcast - A podcast by Candlelit Tales - Wednesdays

Categories:

The first of our Death Series to round out what has been a hell of a year! Death Stories are their own genre in Irish mythology and the last chance anyone has at what our ancestors thought of as immortality: to be talked about, as long as there were people to talk about you and storytellers to tell your tale. Cú Roi Mac Daire is a powerful, enigmatic figure around the fringes of the Ulster Cycle. A mysterious warrior and wielder of magic, he was sometimes friendly to the Ulaid and sometimes their foe. Cú Roi was said to have dedicated his life to searching for Fíor Fir: the Truth that lies in the heart of man. But he might have been better served had he not ignored Fíor Mná, for it was the truth in the heart of woman that he overlooked in the end.
