This is Rumba Catalan!
Canyella's podcast - A podcast by Canyella

From Peret (the King of rumba) to Pantanito (nuevo-rumba). This form of rumba emerged when Catalan gypsies literally imported Cuban rumba (like the first track I have included) into their music. Rumba is happy, not dramatic like flamenco with a signature sound of el ventilador where the guitar, rather than drums, gives the rhythm. Check out compilations such as '25 Rumba Catalan Hits' from K Industria (www.kindustria.com) and the forthcoming Achili Funk (available in Spain end of May and UK in September – www.myspace.com/achilifunk). And for current stuff check out the members of http://groups.myspace.com/rumbagitana. Maybe catch you in Barcelona at KGB on a Thursday sometime this summer – in the meantime enjoy the podcast.
