Academics are calling on New Zealand universities to review their ties with the Confucius Institute after six Australian universities closed centres on their campuses. The non-profit organisations, which were originally established by a Chinese government-affiliated organisation, were set up here with the stated aim of promoting Chinese language and culture overseas.
