It was a wrong turn that sent an interisland ferry epically off course. A new accident investigation report shows that no-one on the bridge of the Aratere knew how to over ride its auto pilot system as the ferry hurtled towards the shore shortly after leaving Picton on Friday June 21. An interim report from the Transport Accident and Investigation Commission or TAIC shows the ship had a new steering system and the Ship's master was getting familiar with the ferry after a stint on another vessel. Kiwi Rail Executive executive general manager, Duncan Roy spoke to Lisa Owen.
