April - Juice Isn’t Worth the Squeeze

Sober·ish Uprising - A podcast by Holly Krivo

April grew up in an environment where alcohol was plentiful, never taboo and part of the fabric of her family. She had her first drink at 7 and remembers a time she went drink for drink with her dad at 14.   As she grew into adulthood April continued to see the conflict within booze. She felt a healthy fear and respect toward alcohol. She had seen what alcohol could do to someone AND that it's a way to come together. Like for most of us the mixed messages were loud and clear.  April calls it her “freshman year” at 30 where she drank more than normal but always in the back of her mind knowing the risk of alcoholism was there. Adding to it was the industry she worked in, a work hard/play hard booze environment (much like her family). She slowly slowly started to realize that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze especially for a woman living with an autoimmune disease.  Sober since 2017, April made a declaration of sobriety. An honoring of the knowing inside that she just couldn’t keep on.  In today's episode, The Juice isn’t Worth the Squeeze, she shares how it took two years after truly realizing that drinking wasn’t great for her body to officially cut alcohol out of her life.  She shares how despite doing so much to take care of herself with her autoimmune disease, she was giving her body an incredible task of ridding itself from alcohol and she just couldn't do it anymore.  We talk about the importance of not overriding your body and ignoring it when it is yelling at you to stop.
