Cathy - Autoimmune, Elective Pain and Integrity

Sober·ish Uprising - A podcast by Holly Krivo

“I fooled myself into believing there was no other way. If I am going to do x, y, zed, of course I have to have a bottle of wine at dinner or take my clients to a scotch tasting and partake. This is just what we do.”  Cathy is a recovering tech executive, health coach and a sober•ish woman on her way to complete sobriety.  As a high-performing woman living with an autoimmune disease Cathy worked for years to find the right solutions for her health and dialed in on those efforts but alcohol? That one took a little longer.  Cathy has a concept called Elective Pain where we make a choice to do things that we know will cause pain but the ROI is worth it. It was when the ROI plummeted that she knew alcohol was no longer a part of her health journey.  We talk about how as coaches living in integrity is extremely important and how its hard to live in integrity when you do things that feel like a betrayal to yourself.  She shares about the pervasive culture of drinking in the tech industry and how the perception of needing to drink to belong is such a strong tentacle that booze has on us.  We talk about the comparison game (not the one you normally think of) but the one where you go out for drinks keeping a mindful eye on others wondering if you can have another or if you're drinking too much. Guilty!  You can find out more about Cathy and the amazing work she does at https://pomonawellness.co/. Curious if you have a drinking problem?
