the mental health care system is profoundly white. Our broken system has never been built for the minority mind - especially for black men. According to Mental Health America, more than 7 million Black Americans have reported to having a mental illness in the last year. Because less than 2 percent of American Psychological Association members are Black or African American, some may worry that mental health care practitioners are not culturally competent enough to treat their specific issues.
