Enduring Trials, Overcoming Temptation

If any one understood trials and difficulty, it was James and the early church. They experienced poverty and were ostracized from their own Jewish community because of their faith in Jesus. The question James helps his audience to answer in chapter 1 is this: “How is the Believer supposed to respond to the inevitable trials they will face in life?” He speaks of two different kinds of trials: EXTERNAL trials – difficult circumstances one falls into that is outside of their control; and INTERNAL trials – the fleshy struggle that happens within when one is tempted to sin.
