In this episode of Cyber Monday, Christian and Dominic have a very pointed conversation about cyber security. Why do organizations reach out for cyber security help? The reasons are either reactive (they had a data breach, got hit by ransomware) or proactive (a current or future client relationship is at stake). This second category is directly tied to a business reason - Perhaps their client has been clamping down on vendor risk management and they've been asked to provide proof that they have a cyber security program. There are very clear business ramifications and motivation for this one in that they stand to lose a big client or prospective client. What's the difference between Cyber Security and IT - Doesn't IT handle our cyber security? IT and cyber security are both separate, distinct functions within an organization that help the business run. Yes they intertwine, but they are NOT one and the same. There can be a misalignment and miscommunication between the IT department and the business. Cyber security can play a role to facilitate that communication and create a harmonious relationship between cyber security, IT and the business.
