The Register reports that the number of senior business executives stymied by an ongoing phishing campaign continues to rise with cybercriminals registering hundreds of cloud account takeovers, or ATOs, over the past 90 days. CEOs and other C-Suite positions are targets for the attackers, as well as VPs, sales directors, and finance managers. The overarching goal, as with all these types of assaults, is to gain access to as many privileged accounts as possible and tap into all the resources available for follow-on crimes. Successful account takeover attacks are often the result of weak and reused passwords. Cybsafe recommends defining and enforcing a strong password policy that includes turning on multi-factor authentication, or MFA, for all accounts.
