If your company uses personal data like driver’s licenses to verify your customers’ identities, you’ll want to be aware of a major change in ID documentation as a number of states roll out new mobile driver’s licenses. These digital IDs, which provide verifiable proof of identity that can be stored and accessed via your phone’s digital wallet, are now being rolled out through a pilot program in California – with Arizona, Maryland, Colorado, and Georgia already signed up and states including Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, and West Virginia next in line. Among other things, the idea is to stop cyber criminals from being able to use your physical driver’s license details to open bank accounts or credit cards in your name. It will take a while to transition, but it’s worth reading up on these digital licenses – and considering signing up for one – whether you’re responsible for your customer’s security, or simply looking for ways to improve your own.
