These digital IDs, which provide verifiable proof of identity that can be stored and accessed via your phone’s digital wallet, are now being rolled out through a pilot program in California – with Arizona, Maryland, Colorado, and Georgia already signed up and states including Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, and West Virginia next in line. Among other things, the idea is to stop cyber criminals from being able to use your physical driver’s license details to open bank accounts or credit cards in your name.
