Jonathan Vanderhagen of Macomb county Michigan has a story that is a fathers worst nightmare. On 9-22-17 his son Killian Vanderhagen lost his life. Jonathan had fought for custody of Killian in court and told the judge if he did not get custody something would happen. Jonathans worst fears would ultimately come true. Following the passing of Killian Jonathan started speaking up about what happened in the courts and was sent to jail with a $500,000 for criticizing the judge online. He was offered a plea deal to get out if he claimed guilty, Jonathan denied that deal and stuck to what he believed in. Miraculously Jonathan won his case and is now a free man. Following this Dad Talk was just getting started and we reported on his case, it went viral. The post we made was a invitation for John to come to the podcast once he got out of jail which he did but just for a few minutes. I've never seen a guy and son who's story inspired other parents like this case. Once he was released everyone wanted to talk to Jonathan and it was so much that he went silent. What you have here is a father that is still very much grieving over his son. During this time Jonathan and I stayed in close contact, not as a potential interviewee buts as friends and a fellow father. What you have here is a father that went to the court for answers. He did everything the right and legal way and these are the results in which came to pass. This is just one of many stories of what is happening to fathers across the country in family court. Jonathan has caught a second wind and wanted to tell his story in hopes it would inspire other parents going through similar situations.
