My next dad is John Gray. You probably know him as the author of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. The book was a long time bestseller in the 90s, he’s sold millions of his books. John is an interesting dad and our session was different and thought provoking. John dives deep into his work of the last few decades and translates his thoughts on the differences between men and women to dads and moms. We cover his standpoints on relationships, hormones, psychology, the difference between men and women and how we deal with stresses, diet and what dads and moms can teach their children when they are balanced in their own powerful energies as men and women. The session is honest and straightforward, which I like a lot. Some of the things John says or rather how he says them would be unpopular or politically incorrect - and that’s exactly why I found the conversation so interesting! If we launch into stuff you find difficult, I urge you to look beyond that and listen for your own value. The most powerful takeaways for me as a dad where: Violence comes from anger and fear and happens when you don't have role models who solve problems. Be a strong outside presence for your children and teach them that just because something difficult happened once, it doesn’t necessarily have to happen over and over again. Teach your daughters how they can trust in other people and be interdependent by making sure they can trust in you. How you treat your partner will translate to your own children. Fathers can provide resilience. Kids need to hear: you did your best and your best is good enough!
