Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraphs: - 581 (in 'Jesus and the Law') - Jesus did not abolish the Law but fulfilled it by giving its ultimate interpretation in a divine way: “You have heard that it was said to the men of old . . . . But I say to you. . . .” With this same divine authority, he disavowed certain human traditions of the Pharisees that were “making void the word of God.” (abbreviated) - 2247 (in 'The Fourth Commandment') - “Honor your father and your mother” (Deut 5:16; Mk 7:10). - 2218 (in 'The Duties of Children') - The fourth commandment reminds grown children of their responsibilities toward their parents. As much as they can, they must give them material and moral support in old age and in times of illness, loneliness, or distress.
