Market report for w/c Monday 12th June 2023, what a funny old week. There is a terrible black grass problem which is making farmers rather miserable. We are receiving very hot weather over the weekend for East Anglia at last. The team are feeling frustrated with the misery of it all and trying to empty their stores. There are a whole lot of different directions the market could go in and no one knows the answer to it.In the farm chat, we have finally got EDP local journalist Chris Hill on the Dewing Grain podcast, very proud to be a fellow winner of the Sir Timothy Colman Prize. Chris explains what a special and humbling experience it was to earn recognition as a journalist working within the agriculture community. Often reporting on the winners, Chris was stunned when he had the honour of receiving his prize, he just couldn’t quite believe it.Chris has been with the EDP since 2007 a relatively late career change for him. Completing an aptitude exam to secure his position in the newspaper. Working for the EDP for 8 years before the agricultural position arose where he was then working as a Rural Affairs Correspondent, appreciating issues within farming from a consumer point of view to put a spin on things, making all information accessible to those outside of the industry - working to balance the impossible. The guys discuss imposter syndrome in the journalism sector and the difficulty of putting facts before opinions for journalists and the art of creating a fair argument.Chris will be fitting tuning into the Dewing Grain podcast into his weekly schedule from this point onwards, will you be too?Finishing the interview, we understand Chris' take on what the future of agriculture for Norfolk might look like. Smaller producers who have created their own set of values between themselves and the consumer are doing really well. For those joining us on the next Dewing Grain Walk, we will be walking around the village of Mundesley, Gimingham & Trunch on Monday 26th June at 2pm.
