Ron Allen discussion & drawing with ArtByTai on DOD45 (S1 Ep8)

On this episode of #DOD45 Tai chats with someone he has admired since his early days of #skateboarding in the late 1980s. Legendary pro skater, formerly of the original H-Street team, #RonAllen. Though he didn't necessarily know it at the time, Ron Allen paved the way for people of color in the world of skateboarding. By doing what he loved, Ron helped skateboarding become the diverse sport we recognize today, which made it's debut in the 2021 summer Olympics.   Tai & Ron get right into the thick of it and talk about everything from music, to taking advantage of street skating without the presence of security guards during the pandemic, to continuing to be a pro skater well into his late 50s, as well as discussing some of the racism Ron faced as a skater. Ron talks about how he had to work off his debt to Thrasher Magazine, how being in cheer taught him to be more professional as a pro skater and how he was forced to choose between having dreadlocks or continuing cheer in college. They also speak on the difference between street skating vs. skate park riding and also competing against yourself.     Ron Allen recently relaunched his skateboard company American Dream Inc.
