In this episode I take a look at the recording sessions that produced one of Elvis most successful albums. From Elvis in Memphis was his tenth studio album and was released by RCA Records on June 17, 1969. It was recorded at American Sound Studio in Memphis during 2 Recording sessions Jan 13th to the 23rd and Feb 17th to the 22nd 1969 Elvis was riding on the crest of a wave at this time after the immense success of his TV Special that had aired the previous month on NBC and it has since been given the title “Comeback Special” after him spending 7 years in Hollywood making mediocre movies and recording substandard songs for the soundtrack albums. Typically the sessions began at around 7pm and concluded at 5am the following morning as Elvis preferred to record during those hours.   From Elvis in Memphis was released in June 1969. The album topped the UK Albums Chart. In the United States, it reached number thirteen on Billboard's Top 100 LP's. By January 28, 1970, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of  America after selling over 500,000 copies In 2003, the album was listed at number 190 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
