Subtypes of Type Five

Enneagram & Coffee - A podcast by Cloud10

Subtypes of Type Five    In the 70th episode of Enneagram & Coffee, host Sarajane Case talks about three subtypes of type five and their relationship with avarice.    Episode Highlights:    To have a better context of the topic today, Sarajane encourages listening to the Enneagram Type Five episode first.  There are three subtypes of type five-Self- Preserved, Social, and Sexual/One-To-One. Subtypes are either dominant, repressed, or secondary.  The word for Self-Preserved is Castle, as they express avarice through privacy.  Self- preserved has the strongest boundaries of any other types of the enneagram. The outside world can feel brutal, hostile, or intrusive for self- preserved.  Self- preserved limits their needs and wants vs. asking for support.  The tactic from hiding some self-preservation types is finding ways to fit in, so they appear more sociable. Totem is the word for Social subtype. Social avarice is knowledge; they use it to compensate for the nourishment that relationship would traditionally provide.  The totem implies they need to relate to people who share their intellectual value.  They focus on higher values and ideals.  In their search for meaning, they become spiritual or idealistic in a way that this counter to real spiritual attainment, as it bypasses compassion.  They are less reserved and less emotional than type seven.   Confidence is the word for Sexual/One-To-One Five. Sexual is the countertype for fives.  This countertype may look different in behavior than motivation, as there's one element that is consistent with the other types, but they behave a little differently. The avarice for Sexual is expressed by an ongoing search for connection that can satisfy their needs.  They have a passion for finding their soulmate.  They are more expressive than the other two subtypes.  They are drawn to ideal romantic partnerships.  3 Key Points: There are three subtypes of type five, which are Self- Preserved, Social, and Sexual/One-To-One. Each subtype expresses avarice in its unique way. All enneagram has a subtype called countertype, which may differ in behavior than motivation.     Tweetable Quotes:   "I believe subtypes offer us way more distinctions than enneagram types than any other element of the enneagram." - Sarajane Case "We all have three subtypes, but typically, one is dominant, one  is repressed , and one is secondary. "- Sarajane Case "Every type has its countertype which means they may look different in behavior than motivation." - Sarajane Case Resources Mentioned:   Sarajane Case Instagram, Website
