Conceal, Don't Feel: Fighting Toxic Positivity

from Fingers Crossed | Published 2/23/2021

The cold never bothered us anyway, but toxic positivity has. Have you ever poured your heart out to someone and have to fight the urge to punch them when their only response is "Cheer up! Everything happens for reason." That may be because you were hit with some positivity that was toxic, aka invalidating your feelings and real issues. Kristee and Sierra are diving into the discussion of positivity gone wrong, when people with good intentions don't realize they're doing it, and trying to define where the line between "healthy" and "toxic" positivity lies. We've all been there, whether we were on the receiving end or may have been unknowingly perpetuating toxic positivity ourselves, but hopefully this discussion can give some perspective on how we can all be better friends and listeners by avoiding toxic positivity where we can in the future.
