The Blizzard: Tottenham 1-2 Arsenal, 1987

Football Ramble - A podcast by Stak

On today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we’re looking back at the heady days of the 1987 Littlewoods Cup. John Cross, the Mirror’s chief football writer, joins us to remember the semi-final second leg replay between Tottenham and Arsenal! With Arsenal languishing in comparative mediocrity by the early 1980s, George Graham’s arrival begun a revolution at the club – and nowhere was this typified more than in this game. Arsenal, spurred on by the half-time announcement at White Hart Lane detailing how Spurs fans could buy tickets to the final, fought back to level the second leg and force this replay. John remembers this incredible game and its crackling atmosphere as David Pleat’s free-scoring Spurs side took on Graham’s resilient Arsenal for a place in the final against Liverpool, as well as the amazing story of David Pleat giving George Graham a lift home after a cup of tea and a sandwich! For more stories from the annals of football history, visit www.theblizzard.co.uk to explore their archives that contain over 700 articles of stories just like this one!***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods.
