Purple Strains and How to Bring Out Colours and Characteristics in Your Cannabis

Grow Weed at Home with Kyle Kushman - A podcast by Kyle Kushman | Nate Hammer

In this episode of the Homegrown Potcast Kronic will be talking about showstopping purple strains, an overview on anthocyanin, and how to bring out the colors or characteristics much more brightly for purple cannabis plants.  Even before sampling the buds, the first thing that catches attention is their appearance. There is truth to not judging buds solely on their outward appearance. However, in an increasingly visual world, it is undeniable that the tendency is to lean towards attractive-looking buds over ordinary ones. That said, in a sea of buds with varying shades of green, purple-hued ones inevitably stand out and steal the show. Regal-looking purple nugs are truly nature's masterpiece. These buds owe their beauty to anthocyanins - a phenolic group of water-soluble pigments responsible for giving plants their red, purple, and blue hues. Cannabis plants inherently contain these pigments. Because the concentration is low, it does not often manifest in its outward appearance. Some strains do have higher anthocyanin content that triggers the beautiful coloration upon exposing it to cold temperatures. Nowadays, genetic augmentation and selective breeding have produced cannabis varieties that display the coveted lilac coloration without necessarily subjecting it too stressful situations.
