Giving Yourself Grace

Happy, Holy Mama - A podcast by Emily Brown - Mondays

I have a confession to make: the popular Catholic Christian phrase, "I'm giving myself grace," used to really bug me.  I kept using the phrase - and still do!, but didn't really understand what it meant. It just felt wrong the way it was being used, so I did a little research. Grace is a gift from God alone. We are incapable of giving it, because it is only a gift that God can give.  There was the rub. THAT'S why it was bugging me so much - it wasn't mine to give! Instead, when I used the phrase, it was more like I was giving myself permission or having patience with myself. Both of which I fully agree with. But I wanted to understand grace more, so I took it to prayer and spiritual reading. And finally, through working with hundreds of mothers in my life coaching work, it all clicked.  We cannot give grace, but we can allow grace to be given by being more receptive to receiving it from God. God freely gives you the grace to do the work He calls you to do, but when you try to control everything, then you effectively hold back, or even fully reject, the grace you need. The grace He is constantly offering to you. You need to learn how to be more receptive.  How to stop trying to control what isn't yours to control.  You need to learn how to 'give yourself' grace, by giving God your wholehearted yes to what He wants to give you, no matter what the package looks and feels like.  Come dive deeper with me into the SIX POSTURES that will allow you to make tangible progress toward being more receptive to God's grace in today's episode of the Happy, Holy Mama Podcast, "How to Give Yourself Grace." Let's dive in, Happy Mother's Day! With love, Emily P.S.
