Heavy Networking 666: Improving Quality Of Experience With LibreQoS

Welcome to Heavy Networking! In this episode we discuss LibreQoS, a free and open source software project to help ISPs improve network latency and responsiveness and improve the Quality of Experience (QoE) for their customers. That project is LibreQoS. We are joined today by Robert Chacon, Dave Taht, and Herbert Wolverson, the builders of LibreQoS. Robert describes it thusly: “LibreQoS is a high-performance transparent bridge that sits inline at the edge of an ISP’s network, enforcing customer bandwidth plans, and maintaining stable latency across the entire network using CAKE, eBPF, and XDP.” It’s more than just a hobby; Robert uses LibreQoS in an ISP he runs to help manage network performance. We discuss: * Problems with QoS and why smart queue management is more effective * How LibreQoS works * Real-world use cases for service providers and enterprises * The CAKE queuing mechanism and how it works in LibreQoS * Why LibreQoS uses eBPF * More Show Links: LibreQoS.io #libreqos:matrix.org chatroom @herberticus – Herbert Wolverson on Twitter @[email protected] – Herbert on Mastodon Hands-On Rust – Herbert Wolverson Rust Brain Teasers – Herbert Wolverson Latency Explained Report – BITAG CeroWrt – Dave Taht’s blog
