On the 18th February 1944, a daring low-level raid was flown by the Mosquitos of 2TAF's 140 Wing to break the walls of Amiens Prison and free members of the French Resistance. The raid has come to be known as Operation Jericho and has passed into legend, but not without some controversy. Joining us today to discuss the raid is the author of two books on the subject, historian Robert Lyman who will put us in with the resistance and the daring Mosquito crews as they knock the walls of the jail down.Pre-order Rob's upcoming Operation Jericho: Freeing the French Resistance from Gestapo jail, Amiens 1944 at our Bookshop: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/6252/9781472852069Buy Rob's big book The Jail Busters: The Secret Story of MI6, the French Resistance and Operation Jericho at our bookshop: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/6252/9781784290177Buy Rob's latest book, A War of Empires: Japan, India, Burma & Britain: 1941-45, at our bookshop: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/6252/9781472847140Support the Pod from just £3 a month or drop us a tip at: https://linktr.ee/historyhackBuy our Merch! https://shop.historyhackpod.com/ Hosted on Acast.
