The Isles of Shoals sit just a few miles off the coast of Maine. The beautiful scenery attracted people of every walk of life, which also included pirates. Blackbeard is said to have frequented the tavern on one of the isles and to have left more than one precious thing behind. Pirates weren't the only people with questionable character to stop on the isles. In 1873 Smuttynose Island would be the scene of a vicious axe murder and the victim and killer himself are said to still roam the island.
