Finding Fulfillment with Core Values (Dr. John Demartini)

Hope to Recharge - A podcast by Matana Poupko Jacobs

Dr. John Demartini’s books and podcasts taught me a tremendous amount about the law of attraction and living with gratefulness and changed how I view life. He shares his insight on the topic of core values, which are the vales that are most important to each of us. For some, this is learning or respecting others’ time or not being wasteful. For others, it may be teaching, being present in the moment, generosity or spontaneous fun. Each person has a different set of core values as life is not black and white and there are many shades of gray and colors. Besides most universally accepted divine laws such as, “Murder is bad,” there are no universal values, as everyone has a different focus which they bring to the table. Many people do not know what their core values actually are and Dr. Demartini has developed  an assessment tool (https://drdemartini.com/values/) that helps people understand what will bring them the most fulfillment in life. This assessment is based on our current actions and "thought" life. We run our lives according to values, whether we perceive it or not. Each decision we make, requires us to prioritize. When we choose one value, we ignore another. What we actually choose to do from our limited resources of time, energy, and money, indicates what we value most. Sometimes, we find that which we actually value is not what we or others hoped it to be, but if we embrace what our true values are, we can become the person we’re truly meant to be. Dr. Demartini has worked with many parents to assess what is “wrong” with their children. Why aren't they being successful? Why can't they live up to expectations? Dr. Demartini has found that often, the problem is not that the child is being lazy or defiant, but that they are frustrated by not being allowed to live according to their core values. What they might need is someone to come talk to them and understand what matters to them on the deepest level. Parents and children can then work together to establish goals and set up a plan that makes sense to the child at their core, making them feel respected and free to live uniquely, as they were created to do. We also discussed what it means when we feel negative emotions and what that tell us about ourselves and about the people around us. If our anger is triggered, that is often a good indicator that what is happening goes against our values, giving us an opportunity to learn about the values of those who upset us. They are likely acting according to their own values, and we can learn more about what those values are by what they’ve said or done.
