Improving Mental Health With Intuitive Eating (Gila Glassberg)

Hope to Recharge - A podcast by Matana Poupko Jacobs

What is intuitive eating and what is the mindset behind intuitive eating? What’s the difference between a registered dietician and a nutritionist? Gila Glassberg, an MS, RDN, CDN, Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, answers these questions and more. Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, developed a system called intuitive eating which consists of 10 steps. People placed on what they’d call “sensible meal plans” are really diets. What they found was that people would inevitably, they would lose the weight, but they would inevitably gain back the weight within a few months or a few years and they were feeling really frustrated. In fact, most people who lose weight on a diet, gain it back within the first five years. With intuitive eating, you eventually do want to focus on nutrition and what’s called joyful movement, which is finding the movement that feels right to you, without feeling restricted. The first principle of intuitive eating is called rejecting the diet mentality. Another is honoring your hunger. Gila walks us through the steps and tools on how to be aware to choose the foods that are good for us and feel good about the choices we are making to help us and navigate through life. Intuitive eating is good for our mental state, our physical state, our relationships, our emotional well being and so much more which goes from the inside out and puts out all kinds of fires.
