Avoidance is a natural coping mechanism that involves trying to avoid stressors instead of dealing with them directly. As a result, when people adopt avoidant tendencies to either consciously or unconsciously avoid a difficult situation, they may increase feelings of anxiety, stress, discomfort, or fear. In this week’s episode, we discuss some of our personal favourite stories, including the psychological implications of avoidance as a coping mechanism and its role in generating both chronic and acute stressors.
