Welcome to another IIDM podcast, today we will be talking about 6 tips to be a successful digital marketer The first step is to know your market and competitors This is because digital marketing is a huge umbrella, and beneath it there is content marketing, social media marketing, SEO, PPCs, email marketing, and many many more. So the first thing you want to do is know the domain. Now, after you understand the domains, the second step is to choose your niche. Your focus can be in a niche space such as LinkedIN Marketing or you can follow the mass market such as facebook advertising or instagram advertising. Otherwise, it can be in other forms such as email marketing. The choice is totally yours! Step number 3: After understanding your niche, what you need to do is to understand the algorithm of things. So start learning the mechanism of things. I don’t mean that you have to learn coding or CSS of the app, what I mean here is to understand how you can be the best in this particular “domain” that you have chosen. One pro tip is to follow experts in the field because they are the best leaders and teachers you can find. Step number 4: forming community Digital marketing is an inexact science. Unlike maths where 1+1=2, Digital marketing is all about creativity and freestyling. You may be surprised even the weirdest and wackiest ideas may be successful. It is important to form a community because it allows us to exchange ideas and ways of doing things. And you should know the best way of learning is through communicating and executing (doing) The next step is step 5: staying relevant We know all advanced technology is. Even our mobile phone apps have daily, weekly and monthly updates, this proves how fast technology is advancing. So we have to stay relevant, to be on track with new marketing trends such as AR/VR or new platforms such as TikTok , so that we can understand the market. One pro tip is to read the news and network with like-minded people! And last but not least, we have to ensure continuous learning and continuous practicing. Just like the Japanese philosophy of KAIZEN, we as digital marketers have to stay curious and hungry, and always wanting to improve so that we can better add value to others.
