This Saturday, Noah Kim of Vernon Hills, a student of Marta Aznavoorian, presents a piano recital featuring Ludwig van Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata and Felix Mendelssohn’s Variations sérieuses, as well as shorter pieces by Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and local composer Misook Kim. Thanks to the Music Institute of Chicago for allowing WFMT to record in Nichols Concert Hall. Noah Kim, 14, is a freshman at Vernon Hills High School. He is a merit scholar at the Music Institute of Chicago and currently studies with Marta Aznavoorian. In 2020, Noah performed Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago as a winner of the DePaul Concerto Festival. He is a first-place winner of other numerous competitions including the Sejong Music Competition in 2018 and 2020, and multiple competitions in 2019: the ISMTA Piano Competition, the Clara Schumann International Piano Competition, the Society of American Musicians, and the Walgreens National Concerto Competition. Noah has performed in masterclasses with John O’Conor, Alan Chow, Christopher Harding, Jon Kimura Parker, Dr Sylvia Wang, and Marian Hahn.
