Day 16 - Angels and Demons - Italia ’90 One day at a Time

One Day At A Time Football Podcast - A podcast by One Day at a Time

A stunning day at the World Cup. Two fierce derbies that promised fireworks on paper and delivered them to such a degree that 30 years later, we’re still learning new bits about each of the games.  Brazil’s World Cup came to a shuddering halt after just four games, they haven't missed a quarter final since and it was the first World Cup where they lost to Argentina after three previous World Cup encounters. How it happened and the accusations that followed dominate our chat.  And that’s not even the main game of the day, no, it’s the latest instalment of the Netherlands West Germany rivalry that might well have been at it’s most volatile during the two year period between 1988 semi final and this last 16 meeting won by the Germans. Their two great goals overshadowed by a double sending off of Frank Rijkaard and Rudy Voller  that lives in Infamy to this day.  On the mic today, Rob Murphy, Billy Joe Padden, Mick Foley and Ciaran O’Hara with our special guest Gavin Cooney from the 42.ie who came on to balance our rose tinted glasses view of the proceedings.
