It was founded in 1978 when a young Marco De Bartoli took over the management of Baglio Samperi from his mother. At the time, both the estate—where grapes for Marsala production had been cultivated for over two centuries—and the Marsala denomination itself were in decline. However, Marco quickly transformed his vineyards into a symbol of a new approach to winemaking in Sicily, rooted in quality and the revival of ancient, virtuous traditions. His work led to the creation of Marsala wines, passitos, and dry wines that have made history in Southern Italy and beyond. In addition to their Marsala and Pantelleria wines, the family also produces wines on Mount Etna. Today’s guest, Renato, is one of the three children of Marco De Bartoli, continuing the family’s winemaking legacy.
