KDMEO Episode 170 - Spring 2021 First Impressions
K-Drama My Eyes Out - A podcast by Judy, Linda and Teresa
DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO BUILD A SNOWMAN AFTER A MURDER? Judy and Linda try out newer dramas for Spring 2021. We're taking a short break! Think of us in cocoons dreaming of the second season of "Hospital Playlist" (슬기로운 의사생활). We'll be back here and there, if there's anything fun that comes out. Digressions: 0:47 - Listener E-mails! 11:13 - Judy offers up a correction for episode 169: "As quickly as a lie" 12:54 - Vox has great informative videos on Youtube, but their Coronavirus playlist is particularly important. Please check it out for reliable information from experts. 14:36 - Linda is hooked on Wendy's (Red Velvet) first mini-album, but especially the song, "When This Rain Stops" 16:34 - Judy is fascinated with the documentary series about a single mom in Korea on SayuriTV 20:33 - Linda watched the second season of "Stranger" and was okay with it. 22:18 - Judy loves "Battlestar Galactica" (2004) so much. Even though it's sci fi, it's grounded in real human concerns and asks what it means to be human and whether we are worth redeeming. 25:33 - We had a watch party with our Patreon donors for the first episode of "Sisyphus" (시지프스) and it was only bearable because of the snarky company. 32:46 - "Mouse" (마우스) is a thriller from TVN, starring Lee SeungGi and Ahn JaeWook. The crimes were graphic and difficult to watch, but we also couln't take the drama seriously because of some pointedly stupid choices. 48:23 - "Vincenzo" (빈센조) is a TVN action comedy thriller (?) that is tonally all over the place. Song JoongKi plays a Korean-Italian mafia consigliere. We were hoping for a straight up revenge story, but there's some corporate shenanigans mixed with "Kung Fu Hustle"-esque cast of kooky characters. Linda's going to watch more of it though! 54:19 - "Navillera" (나빌레라) is yet another TVN slice of life drama. It stars Park InHwan as the most adorable elderly man who longs to learn ballet dancing, and Song Kang as an aspiring ballerino who's going to teach him. It's so predictable, but in a good, heartwarming way. Some Korean terms: 거짓말처럼:[geo-jit-mal-cheo-reom] literally "like a lie"; unbelievably. 어처구니없어: [eo-cheo-goo-ni-up-suh] absurd.
