Lord Deben and the dangers of restricting dairy output in world short of food

Kite Consulting - A podcast by John Allen - Fridays

Categories:

This week our hosts are joined by Lord Deben (or John Gummer as he may be better known) Chair of the Climate Change Committee, John Allen, Kite’s Managing Partner, Rachael Madeley-Davies, Kite’s Head of Sustainability and of course for our usual milk market report, Chris Walkland. Some of the Kite team met with Lord Deben earlier this week and as previous Secretary of State for Agriculture and also for the Environment, he was perfectly placed to discuss the objectives of the Climate Change Committee in relation to how UK dairy is delivering on sustainability. Our guests discuss some of the key points in terms of what UK dairy has already done, what is it doing currently and what can it do to overcome some of the barriers. This discussion draws on Kite’s new report released today “Project Apollo” which focuses on how sustainability and food security can be delivered together. Lord Deben, John and Rachael discuss how dairy can deliver on both of those fronts, recognising the complexity of the issue and the true importance of environmental sustainability.
