日本最高法院在本周三宣布,夫婦結婚後必須共同使用同樣的姓氏,這代表已婚者不能各自擁有原本的姓氏。當然,丈夫也可以選擇將姓氏改成妻子的姓氏,但是實際上只有4%的男性在婚後改成妻子的姓氏。有位日本女性表示,覺得自身的自我認同在婚後被抹去。因為改姓之後,必須在所有合約上面做姓名變更申請,她認為「在每次申請更改名字的時候,我自身的價值就一次次地被抹去」 我們再來看看其他地方的法律,魁北克及希臘都明文禁止女性在婚後冠夫姓,而在法國,則是規定無法更改出生證明上的姓氏,僅能在口頭或生活上將自己的姓氏改掉,在有法律效力的文件上仍然得使用自己的名字。
