Ep. 107: (True Crime) The Return of Paul Sand AKA Edward Wayne Farris (Duty 2: The Deuce) (Murder / Texas / Jack Hyles / IFB / Fundamentalism / Sermon Illustration / Cult / Brainwashing / Christian)

Leaving Eden Podcast - A podcast by Leaving Eden LLC - Mondays

Today is a great day in the world of the Leaving Eden Podcast, because it marks the return of Sadielock Holmes and Nancy Jew. Sadie and Gavi revisit the mystery of Paul Sand (Episode 26), a "true" story put forward by Jack Hyles in his famous sermon, "Duty." A tip from listener Casey Atkins (Thank you Casey!) points them in the direction of the 1964 murder of Agnes Farris, at the hand of her husband, Edward Wayne Farris. Certain details are too consistent to be coincidence. Other details are irreconcilable with the story told by Hyles. Is this the murder from the sermon? And what does this say about the man who delivered the sermon? Sadie and Gavi are on the case! This episode is brought to you by our sponsor, BetterHelp! In most episodes we’ll mention at least a few of these topics, but we try very hard to avoid graphic detail unless it’s relevant to the story we’re telling, and we do our best to give the audience a heads-up before going into detail on any of these topics. This episode has discussion of domestic violence, murder, and infidelity, but while those are major themes in this episode there won’t be a lot of detail on any of them. We’ll also be discussing at length the concept of a “sermon illustration” and the concept that many Baptist preachers use tragic stories, whether true, false, or just highly exaggerated, to predict dire consequences for those who defy their control. We will also be briefly mentioning a hypothetical capital punishment, death penalty, however it doesn’t actually end up happening.WE HAVE NEW MERCH AVAILABLE, AND A NEW MERCH SHOP, at https://leavingedenpodcast.threadless.comStream the Leaving Eden Podcast theme song, Rolling River of Time on Spotify!https://open.spotify.com/artist/6lB7RwSQ9X5gnt1BDNugyS?si=jVhmqFfYRSiruRxekdLgKA.Join our Facebook Discussion group!https://www.facebook.com/groups/edenexodusJoin our subreddit!Reddit.com/r/EdenExodusInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/leavingedenpodcast/https://www.instagram.com/sadiecarpentermusic/https://www.instagram.com/gavrielhacohen/Twitter:https://twitter.com/LeavingEdenPodhttps://twitter.com/HellYeahSadiehttps://twitter.com/GavrielHacohenFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/LeavingEdenPodcasthttps://www.facebook.com/GavrielHaCohen--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/leavingedenpodcast/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/leavingedenpodcast/support Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast.
