Episode 17 -- Treatise on Peace of Soul c12 -- Staying Serene Despite Spiritual Dryness

What reasons can be given for spiritual dryness being a blessing? In chapter 12 of A Treatise on Peace of Soul, Fr Scupoli urges us to keep our souls at peace when we enter into spiritual dryness. Such an interior state is a sign of spiritual growth! Last episode we saw how the devil tries to make us lose our peace of soul by persuading us that we are lazy and unfaithful and lukewarm. He especially likes to make us lose our peace of soul by making us feel guilty about our lack of emotional fervour in our prayers. Let us not be deceived. Dryness and distraction is often something God allows. Such interior states are often the sign of God"s closeness. His Light is so bright that it blinds our imagination and intellect and emotions. They feel nothing. But He is with us!

Om Podcasten

St Philip Neri in the 16th century would daily gather those in Rome who were desirous of seeking Christian perfection. He would read from a spiritual book and then discourse on the meaning of what was read. This podcast (and the nightly prayer group from which it springs) seeks to carry on St Philip’s method of helping people become holy, even saints, in their own homes.
